Our Vision: Honoring Tradition, Empowering Lives

At NUFANU Loom Handcraft Fusion, we're driven by a vision to honor the weaving traditions of the Bawm indigenous people in Bangladesh. Led by our founder, Sangrem Mawi Bawm (Julie), a U.S. Exchange alumna, we empower Bawm indigenous women by showcasing the incredible skills passed down through generations, infusing the fashion world with their unique artistry. Beyond fashion, our vision extends to empowering Bawm indigenous women. We aim to provide job opportunities that break the cycle of poverty, support families, and creating brighter futures. Our brand stands for preserving tradition while embracing sustainability, envisioning a world where heritage and innovation walk hand in hand.

Our Mission: Weaving Tradition, Transforming Lives

NUFANU's mission is twofold: first, to honor the rich weaving heritage of the Bawm indigenous people. Through our handcrafted fashion accessories and clothing, we pay tribute to this traditional craft. Second, we're committed to empowering Bawm indigenous women in Bangladesh. By providing meaningful job opportunities, we aim to break the cycle of poverty, enabling financial independence and the ability to educate their children. Not only are we empowering, but we're also adding a touch of sustainability to the fashion world. We use eco-friendly materials like jute and cotton, ensuring that our creations are environmentally conscious. Join us in honoring tradition, embracing sustainability, and making a meaningful impact on craftsmanship and lives.

Inspiration Behind NUFANU: A Story of Talent and Hope

NUFANU, meaning "Mother" (Nu) and "Daughter" (Fanu) in the Bawm language, represents the shared journey of Sangrem Mawi and her mother, Zing Thla Par. Despite limited educational opportunities, Zing Thla Par's weaving talent and Sangrem Mawi's entrepreneurship skills came together to create NUFANU.

Through the U.S. State Department's Community College Initiative Program, Sangrem Mawi gained knowledge in entrepreneurship. Returning home, Sangrem founded NUFANU to empower artisans like her Mother  Zing Thla Par and offer hope for mothers and children.
